Alex is off to Canton, OH to compete for Loveland High School at the State Swimming Championship Meet. She will be swimming in the 200 Medlay Relay (backstroke) and the 400 Free Relay.  They are seeded 18th and 24th repsectively.  Good luck Alex!

Alex swam for Loveland High School at the Southwest Ohio District Meet to qualify for State Championship meet. She competed in the 100 Back, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay same as the Sectional Meet.

200 Medley Relay:

The first event was the 200 Medley Relay. Alex swam backstroke as the lead off leg. She swam her fastest split EVER with a 28.23 split. Everybody swam fast legs and the team swam over 4 seconds faster than their Sectional meet time. The team finished 8th overall at Districts earning a trip to the podium and medals (top 8 teams). They qualified for State Championships with the 18th fastest time in the state.

200 Free Relay:

Next up for Alex was the 200 Free Relay. This relay was the least competitive of Loveland’s relays coming into the event seeded 15th. Alex swam the lead off leg and swam a 25.43 which was her fastest split of the season. The team swam it in 1:44.60, which was a one second improvement over their Sectional swim. Even though they improved they finished 18th overall.

100 Backstroke:

The 100 Back is immediately after the 200 Free Relay. She swam in the 2nd to last heat. As she was seeded 3rd in that heat she was in lane 3 swimming next to the fastest seed. Her 1st 50 was a 29.29 which was her fastest start of the season. At the midway point it was her and Sarah Blood (a Marlin teammate) with Alex slightly in the lead. Sarah was in lane 7 and Alex never saw her. She handily beat the girls around her, but Sarah out touched her at the end. Alex was ecstatic with her time of 1:00.59. It was her 1st time with a 1:00 result and it was a new SECTIONAL cut (USA Swimming Sectionals). She finished 10th overall and just missed qualifying for State with the 28th fastest time overall in the state.

400 Free Relay:

The final event of the night was the 400 Free Relay. Alex swam the lead off leg as her coach says she swims the fastest off the blocks of anyone on the team. She swam a 55.65 for her leg which was another PB split. All the girls swam in the 54 to 55 range.  The time of 3:41.12 was 6 seconds faster than their Sectional swim. They qualified for State Championships with the 23rd fastest time in the state.

Alex will be going to the State Championship meet swimming on two relays: 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay.  She has swam the fastest times of her career on her relays and 100 Back.  While she didn’t make State in the 100 Back she improved by over 2 seconds on her PB time and finally got her 100 back Sectional cut.

Alex swam for Loveland High School at the Southwest Ohio District Sectional Meet.  She competed in the 100 Back, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay.  She told her coach she would swim all three relays and the back (each swimmer is limited to 2 individual events and 4 total events, so the 3 relays meant she could only do 1 individual).

200 Medley Relay:

The first event was the 200 Medley Relay.  Alex swam backstroke as the lead off leg.  She got out fast and put the team in 2nd after after her 28.97 time.  That is the her fastest 50 back split ever and 1st time under 29 seconds.  The team finished 6th overall which is what they came into the meet seeded. They qualified for Districts with the 10th fastest time in the Southwest District.

200 Free Relay:

Her second event was the 200 Free Relay.   This was the least competitive relay for the team as Randy felt the team had the best chance to advance in the 200 Medley and 400 Free relays, so he put his best swimmers in those events.  Alex swam the lead off leg and swam a 25.97 getting the team off to a good start.  The team swam it in 1:45.65 and finished 6th (they were seeded 6th coming in). They qualified for Districts with the 15th fastest time in the Southwest District.

Here is a composite photo of Alex’s start.  I like that her hands are quickly together in a tight streamlined position well before she hits the water.

100 Backstroke:

After swimming two relays Alex finally got to swim her individual event- the 100 Back.  She went into the event seeded 5th with a 1:01.78 which she swam last weekend at FAVC Championships.  Her 1st 50 was a 30.08 which was slower than her 1st 50 at FAVC Champs.  She finished with a 1:02.07 and finished 5th.  She was not happy for two reasons: she wanted to be in the 1:01 range and the girl in lane 1 beat her and she had beat her every time they swam against each other all season. Still it was the 2nd fastest time she has ever swam.  She qualified for SW Districts and tied for the 10th seed. She was happier when she heard that.

400 Free Relay:

The final event was the 400 Free Relay.  Once again Alex swam the lead off leg.  She swam a 56.76 for her leg which is a decent time for her (PM = 55.80).  All the girls swam in the 56 to 57 range.  They just out touched the Milford team to finish ahead of them in 6th place. Three relays – three 6th place finishes.  All just as they were seeded.  They qualified for Districts with the 11th fastest time in the Southwest District.

Her first event was the 200 Medley Relay.  She lead off with the Backstroke with a 29.14 time helping the Loveland Relay Team win the FAVC Buckeye division and finish 3rd overall.  That was her best time of the season swimming the lead off Backstroke leg of the 200 Medley Relay.

Alex swam the 50 Free next.  She swam her best time of the season, 25.46, to take 2nd in the Buckeye division and 3rd overall in the FAVC.  It was the 1st time she went faster the 26 seconds this year.

She led from start to finish winning with a personal best time of 1:01.78.   She was ecstatic with the win and the fact that she went a personal best time which was faster than 1:02.  She had not been able to crack the 1:02 mark all season.
